Frank (Haotian) Cong
Frank (Haotian) Cong is a media artist and educator based between Cambridge (US) and Shanghai (China). His practice and research explore potential poetic relationships between computational systems and biological media, with an emphasis on a transdisciplinary understanding of art and biotechnology. Recently his interest has been in creating contemporary chimeras as an approach to understanding and tackling climate and cultural crises.
Frank has exhibited, curated, and spoken at various art, design, and technology events, including Première Vision in Paris (2016), Consciousness Reframed Conference (2017), Out of Control Exhibition at Songjiang Art Museum (2018), Ars Electronica in Linz (2019), Shanghai Science Festival (2020), Flare Media Art Exhibition Shanghai (2021), and Lab2 Exhibition at Liu Haisu Art Museum (2022). He is the founding director of Knot Cafe, an art studio. He has also held teaching positions in different institutions, including New York University Shanghai, the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, and the China Academy of Art.
Frank holds a B.A. degree from Roy Ascott Technoetic Arts Studio, Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. He is now pursuing his M.S. in the Art, Culture, and Technology Program at MIT.
