Technoetic Entanglement

2018
Collaborative Curatorial Project (TA studio & DESSUS studio)
Suzhou, China

For this collaborative project, Frank Cong is the exhibition curator and leader of interactive media production team (unless otherwise stated).

This exhibition wants to expose the audience to the ways that art and technology intermingle and affect each other. Such possibilities are generated by creating experiences that explore virtual narration, sound, motion, light, and interaction. In this context, we pose a series of questions: "What is reality?", "What is space?", "How art and technology can transform spaces and notions of spirituality into new modes of doing, making, and thinking?"

Question of Reality

In this interactive environment, we question the reality and virtuality of narrative spaces. The observer is immersed in different digital and physical environments, and his subjectivity is being questioned while he travels in virtual realities.

Question of Oscillation

This performance engages with the question of oscillation by combining traditional Guzheng performance and audio design technology to create contemporary listening experiences. The Guzheng player will perform a piece from the Tang Dynasty and these sounds will then be fed into a computer system - which will translate the Guzheng sounds live into a new system of sonic forms.

**This work was created by Dr. Michelle Lewis-King and Echie Zhou. Frank Cong did not contribute to the production of this work.

Question of Spirituality

The concept focuses on future mythologies. We create a future temple by allowing the audience to experience a techno-spiritual space where interconnectivity and cybernetic systems aid toward the emergence of aesthetics. The audience could interact with the totem in the center of the space with motion and sound. Suzhou window frame-shaped screen is a totem we designed for the exhibition. Participants could interact with it using Kinect. The sound and augmented visuals could give the participants a special techno-spiritual experience.
